Neymar in cheeky Philippe Coutinho admission

Brazil superstar Neymar has heightened speculation Barcelona will target Philippe Coutinho by suggesting the Liverpool playmaker “would totally fit in” at Camp Nou.

The 24-year-old Anfield ace, who starred alongside Neymar in Brazil’s 4-1 thumping of rivals Uruguay at Estadio Centenario in Montevideo in midweek, has emerged as a long-term replacement for Andres Iniesta when the Spain legend finally calls time on his illustrious career in Catalonia.

Anfield officials recently tied Coutinho to a new £150,000-a-week contract until 2022 and are likely to take a dim view of Neymar’s glowing praise for his countryman.

“A Premier League player that I would like to have in Barcelona is Coutinho,” the Camp Nou fans’ favourite told reporters.

“I believe Philippe Coutinho is a player that would totally fit in Barcelona.”

Liverpool will not want to see the influential forward follow in the footsteps of former Anfield stars Javier Mascherano and Luis Suarez, who quit Merseyside in 2010 and 2014 respectively to move to Barca.

World Cup winner Iniesta will be out of contract with the La Liga giants at the end of next season but sporting director Robert Fernandez said recently he expects the club legend to sign an extension.

The 32-year-old eight-time title winner is said to be a target for a host of cash-rich Chinese Super League clubs.

Barcelona are currently priced 3.75 to win this year’s Champions League and quoted 3.10 in the La Liga outright winner betting.
