Jose Mourinho not impressed by Antoine Griezmann fears

Jose Mourinho says he will not waste any time trying to convince Antoine Griezmann to get over his fears about the weather in England and promised “something interesting” from Manchester United in the summer.

Highly-rated France international Griezmann has emerged as a top target for the former champions but reports suggest any deal could depend on Mourinho having to persuade the Atletico Madrid striker about conditions in the north-west.

The 26-year-old was quoted by RMC last month as saying: “England, I have a lot of doubts about my private life. Everything like rain, bad weather… I need to feel happy outside.”

Mourinho said he no time for such concerns and promised he we will not be wasting his energy on any of his targets who have such reservations.

“If a player wants to move to London, enjoy London, we don’t want you,” he told reporters.

“If the first thing you think is where you’re going to live – think Los Angeles, Galaxy would be the first choice, then Vitoria Setubal [in Portugal], go to the beach every day.

“There are beautiful places to live and to play. We want people who are really engaged by the first contact. We want people that if I call or Mr Woodward calls some guy or some agent, we want people who are immediately engaged or dreaming about coming.

“This is the profile of players we want. If you don’t want to come to us, good luck, enjoy your other club.”

Mourinho said he will not be recommending targets potentially out of the club’s reach to his paymasters but indicated he intends to be active in the summer transfer window when the season is over.

He told a news conference: “Then it is a difficult job and they try to do the best they can and I’m sure that in the end of the summer, probably, we don’t have exactly my first options because it’s difficult to succeed in every attempt.

“But I’m sure that we are going to do something interesting and to improve our team for next season.”

Manchester United remain in pursuit of bitter rivals Liverpool in fourth place in the race to secure Champions League football next season and are currently priced at 2.38 in the top-four finish betting.
